Three things are important to me: I want to live to be a hundred; and this book’s got to be printed; and this [Regimental] Museum’s got to be opened … I guess somebody will walk through … some day and say, ‘Well hey, I wonder what it was like. Maybe we’re going to find out what it was like.’ and I hope they’ll never find out …”

But there’s a very strong, loyal comradeship that I don’t think you’d get anywhere … I don’t think it’s available [elsewhere]. You’d have to experience it … you’re depending on that man, and you get so you know that you can trust him to the full extent. And this is something that money can’t buy…”
