A history bought by blood, established 16 September 1903 as the 91st Canadian Highlanders: its establishment was fixed at four companies. The choice of name was almost certainly deliberate. Despite the new Regiment’s obvious symbolic roots within the Scottish military tradition and the Highland clan, and beyond the deliberate efforts of Scottish-Canadian communities to foster a distinctive Scottish tradition within Canadian society, the name said it all – Canadian Highlanders.
The Argyll Regimental Museum honours over a century of courage, sacrifice, and service. Want to learn more about the rich history of the Argylls? Visit our Museum for a self guided tour.

The Pipes and Drums (P&D) have been in continuous service in the Regiment since 1903, when the latter was raised in Hamilton as the 91st Canadian Highlanders.
During the First World War, the P&D saw active service with the 19th Battalion CEF (perpetuated by the Argylls) and, during the Second World War, with the 1st Battalion The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s). The Battle Honours of the Regiment that are borne on its Regimental Colour are carried on its drums.
